This one-day, hands-on workshop is designed for aspiring birth assistants, doulas, and anyone supporting a home birth. Participants will learn the basics of physiological birth, the stages of labor, how to support the birthing person emotionally and physically, and how to assist a midwife with practical, non-clinical tasks.
Core topics include: Understanding home birth and the birth team, The role and responsibilities of a birth assistant, Stages of labor and birth, Comfort measures and emotional support techniques, Setting up and breaking down a birth space, Immediate postpartum support, Basics of birth supply handling and sterile technique, Emergency preparedness overview, Communication, teamwork, and presence.
The class includes discussion, hands-on demonstrations, and role-playing to build confidence and readiness for assisting at birth.
