Birthing: Surviving to Thriving

Day 2 equips you with critical birth attendant skills for assisting midwives or freebirthers—skills such as setup, handwashing, sterile techniques, vitals monitoring, charting, and assisting in emergency management of shoulder dystocia, breech births, hemorrhage, and neonatal resuscitation.

 

Day 3 ramps up the intensity, teaching you how to manage births in wilderness or disaster scenarios. Learn how to handle limited supplies, maintain cleanliness, manage nervous systems, and tackle birth complications with available resources.

Community Midwifery & Earth-based Birth: A Guide to Birthing in Low-Resource Environments.

Ruth Ann Colby Martin will explain the vital role of midwives and birth attendants in various environments and explore models of care with a particular focus on the unique challenges of low-resource environments. She will highlight the principles of physiologic birth, emphasizing the critical supplies, people, and environmental factors needed to support safer, more empowering birthing experiences. She will also introduce essential skills for supporting birth in any context by sharing her framework for the "5 Corner Stones" of birth work—critical elements for midwives and birth workers committed to providing care in diverse environments.
